Learning to Read (L2R) program kicked off in the Steel city
here on 9 January.
Sarada Prasad Nayak, Minister food, supplies and consumer
welfare launched the much sought after program.
Mr.Nayak inaugurating the program said that boys and gils of
weaker section will reap benefits from the program.
Entire program is supported by Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP)for 3
years.
Madhu Sudan Padhi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary Department of
Higher Education (DHE) lauded the efforts of Steel
Major
in extending support for the children in lower strata.
Program will be taken up in the 50 schools of the Steel city
which are being taken care by RSP during the program period,
said Surendra Nath Patra, Senior Manager RSP.
Support for salary of teachers, teaching and learning
materials, training is being supported by RSP, said Mr.Patra.
This initiative was taken during the tenure of Mr. Padhi as
the RDC Northern Division.
Now it has taken shape, thanks to interest of the RSP and
Minister Mr.Nayak, said Ashok Kumar Paikray, Campaign
coordinator, PRATHAM.
The training cum-review programme was also attended by Sangram
keshari Swain, DPC SSA Sundargarh, Kapilendra Mishra, DI of
Schools Rourkela .
Vote of thanks was proposed by Saroj kumar Kar.
Dr Abhimanyu Jena also participated the training programme. |

Dr.Chavan requested the Prime Minister to
unveil the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) and
Dr.Singh readily agreed for the same.

Pratham was set up as an initiative led by UNICEF in 1994.
In the Public Service category stalwarts like Anna Hazare,
Dr.Devi Shetty and leading NGOs like Association for
Democratic Reforms (ADR), Ecosphere and Naaz Foundation were
in the fray.
Though contest was tough, how ever Pratham came out
successful in the competition, said an organizer.
And Jury Members of the CNN-IBN Team found Pratham suitable
for Public Service Award for their outstanding contribution
in the field of universal literacy and education amongst
children.
With Pratham receiving the award, leading educational
activist Ashok Paikray congratulated the team and expressed
his happiness over the success. |
