Read Orissa campaign

PRATHAM Orissa is planning the following activities this year in a campaign mode to try and reach every child in a government run primary school and those out of school in rural areas of Orissa. In collaboration with OPEPA, Pratham plans to work in about 182 blocks in 25 districts (out of a total of 314 blocks of 30 districts) of the state that have less than average learning outcome figures as evidenced by Second class results, literacy rate and out of school numbers. This will be a scale-up of the successful pilot held in 4 blocks last year.

ASER in Orissa – is an attempt to assess the educational status of children of Orissa(3-16yrs). The initiative started since 2005 and every year all the 30 districts are covered under it. Aser is expected to continue till 2010.

Read Orissa Campaign – This is an umbrella campaign and many sub-programs are a part of it

L2R Program (6-14yrs) – it covers 25 districts, 182 blocks and aims to reach 25000 villages by the end of 2007. The strategy is to create volunteers, train them in our accelerated learning methodology and encourage them to take the program forward by making every child in this community to read & do basic math..

Library program – (3-14yrs) currently 100 libraries are running in Cuttack city & Sadar and in Jeypore city. The objective of the program is to inculcate reading habit in the children especially among the slum children.

Sishuvachan program – 30 sishuvachan classes which have specifically been designed for the children of pre –school are running in Cuttack city & Sadar. The intention is to make them thorough with the letters & sentences & simple airthematic.

R2L Program – the program is being conducted with the school children upto class-V and drop out children.

English Pilot program – the program is being piloted in three pockets of Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Gajapati. The objective is to bridge the gap between regional school children and English medium schools by making them fluent in day to day conversation in English.

Skill Development Program - is a special program designed for adults to help them become fluent in English. This is expected to have a positive implication on their personality.

Summer camp 2008 - Pratham intends to make its Accelerated Learning Programme accessible to every child in rural Orissa through a one month summer camp. Towards this goal, volunteers, teachers, PRI members and others will be mobilized in all blocks of Orissa.
